Fumieさんについて
Hi, I’m Fumie, a native Japanese speaker and certified Japanese language teacher based in Tokyo.
I was born and raised in Osaka, so I speak both standard Japanese and the Osaka dialect. After moving to Tokyo, I became curious about the differences in language, culture, and everyday life between the two places. That curiosity continues to shape the way I teach Japanese and share Japanese culture.
I have studied English and French, so I understand how challenging it can be to learn a language with grammar, expressions, and cultural assumptions that are very different from your own. I also know that learning vocabulary and grammar is not always enough to express what you really want to say. I enjoy helping learners put their thoughts into Japanese in a way that feels natural and true to them.
In addition to teaching Japanese, I work as a local guide in Tokyo, helping visitors discover the language, culture, and small details of everyday life. I am also a mother of two.
I enjoy traveling, discovering good food, reading books and manga, knitting, and noticing the little things in everyday life. My favorite foods are sushi and takoyaki.
I want you to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and learning at your own pace. I look forward to meeting you and hearing about your interests and your connection to Japan.

Every lesson starts with you.
My lessons are personalized and conversation-based, for complete beginners as well as learners who have studied Japanese before. Your interests, experiences, goals, and everyday life can all become part of the lesson.
The goal is to help you express yourself naturally and confidently in Japanese, not simply memorize grammar and vocabulary. You will have time to speak, make mistakes, ask questions, receive support, and try again in a relaxed atmosphere.
During each lesson, I listen carefully to what you want to say and help you find the words, grammar, and expressions you need. We look at how to express your thoughts more clearly and naturally, and you will have opportunities to use what you have learned in conversation.
I create a personal Google Doc for your lessons and update it during each session with useful words, corrections, and natural expressions from our conversation. Your notes stay organized in one place, so you can return to them after class, review past lessons, and see your progress over time.
If you are a complete beginner, we can start step by step with greetings, useful everyday expressions, basic grammar, hiragana, and katakana. If you have studied Japanese before, we will build on what you already know and focus on Japanese you can use in real conversations. I can support you in English when needed.
You do not need to buy a textbook before we begin. I can suggest materials that suit your level, interests, and goals.
In your free 30-minute first lesson, we will talk about your experience with Japanese, your interests, and what you would like to be able to do. We will also try a short activity or conversation at your level. Then we can decide together what would be most helpful for your future lessons.
You do not need to speak perfectly. Mistakes are a natural part of learning, and we will move forward together at your own pace.
