I'm Shoko, a Japanese teacher based in Tokyo.
I studied Japanese Literature at university and obtained a Japanese language teaching qualification. I also hold a museum curator qualification.
In addition to teaching Japanese, I have more than 20 years of experience working in Japanese companies. I currently work in Human Resources (HR), where I am involved in recruitment and job interviews.
My professional experience allows me to support learners who are interested in studying, working, or building a career in Japan.
I enjoy helping learners from different backgrounds achieve their goals through practical communication, cultural understanding, and thoughtful personalized support.

My lessons focus not only on learning Japanese, but also on understanding the meanings and connections behind words and expressions.
For example, when studying kanji and vocabulary, I help students understand how words are related and how they are actually used in real-life situations. I believe that understanding the reasons behind the language makes learning more effective, memorable, and enjoyable.
I can support students who want to:
• Prepare for the JLPT
• Improve kanji and vocabulary skills
• Learn keigo (honorific expressions)
• Study for university or graduate school in Japan
• Prepare for interviews in Japanese
• Communicate more naturally in daily life
My lessons are tailored to each student's goals and level. Beginners are welcome, and I also enjoy working with learners who have deeper questions about Japanese language and culture.
Lessons are conducted mainly in Japanese, with English support when needed.
Questions are always welcome.

素晴らしい I booked Shoko-sensei to prepare for my first in-person interview in Japan, and it was the most correct decision I made! Not only was Shoko-sensei incredibly knowledgeable and patient, but she also went the extra mile to help me research the companies I was interviewing with.
