I am Agil Pirverdiyev, a FIDE Master and FIDE-certified trainer based in Baku, Azerbaijan. I have taught chess for fifteen years to more than 100 students.
My playing record: 2411 in classical chess and 2508 in rapid. I became Under 16 World Champion in 2011 and Under 14 European Champion, and won a team silver medal at the Chess Olympiad. I also hold the FIDE arbiter title, with open tournament wins in Italy, Switzerland, France and Spain.
Outside chess I hold a Master's degree in Economics, which is why my lessons are built on a clear plan and measurable progress rather than general advice.

Every course starts with a free 30-minute meeting. I look at your games or play through a few positions with you, tell you honestly where your level is, and we agree on what the first ten lessons should fix. Nothing is pre-packaged: a 900-rated child and an 1800-rated club player need completely different work.
How a lesson runs:
- A live video lesson on Lichess or Chess.com - you see my board, I see how you think.
- Openings: a small, practical repertoire you can actually remember, matched to your style.
- Middlegame: pawn structures, piece placement, and how to form a plan when nothing forcing exists.
- Endgames: the positions that really decide games - rook endings, king and pawn, opposite-coloured bishops.
- Calculation and tactics: trained with timed exercises so the skill holds up on a real clock.
- Homework after every lesson, and your own games analysed move by move before the next one.
- Tournament preparation: opponent research, time management, and recovering after a loss.
I teach children from about six years old, adults returning to chess, and competitive players preparing for rated events. My students play in tournaments across Europe, the Gulf and Asia. I am used to working with families at international schools, so lessons are scheduled around your time zone.
