About me
Hi! I’m Kotaro, a professional-level Shogi tutor from Japan
I trained in the Japan Shogi Association’s Apprentice School (Shōreikai) — the same program where professional players are developed — and reached 3-kyu level before focusing on international teaching.
I’m fluent in English and Japanese, and I also speak some Spanish, which helps me teach students from all over the world.
I’ve introduced Shogi to players in Asia, Europe, and Latin America, combining serious strategy with the joy of Japanese culture.
Whether you’re a complete beginner, a chess player curious about Shogi, or aiming to reach your first-dan, I’ll guide you step by step with clear explanations and fun, personalized lessons.

Learn Shogi (Japanese Chess) from a Former Apprentice Professional
Hi, I’m Kota! I’m a native Japanese Shogi tutor with 10+ years of experience. I trained in the Japan Shogi Association’s Apprentice School (Shoreikai) and reached 3-kyu before choosing a different career path. Now, I share my passion for Shogi with students from all over the world.
My lessons are:
Perfect for beginners (basic rules, piece movement, tactics)

Flexible and tailored to your level and goals
I teach in English or Japanese, and lessons are held online via Zoom or Google Meet. Students of all ages (10+) are welcome!
