Hi, I’m Hikari. I live in Tokyo.
I became a Japanese teacher after more than ten years working in Japanese companies. I spent most of those years at pharmaceutical companies, reading English-language documents, and later worked in export administration at a building materials manufacturer, writing emails in English every day. So I know what it’s actually like to use Japanese in a Japanese workplace.
These days I teach while raising two young children. I love cooking, reading, and kimono dressing. — so if you’re curious about life and culture in Japan, let’s talk about it.
I’m studying English myself. Learning a new language is fun, but it’s frustrating when you can’t say what you want to say. I know that feeling well.
Qualifications & experience - Completed a 420-hour Japanese teacher training program - Currently teaching at a Japanese language school in Tokyo, where students from many countries study together.
はじめまして、Hikariです。東京に住んでいます。
日本の会社で10年以上はたらいたあと、日本語の先生になりました。薬の会社で英語の資料を読む仕事を長くしていました。そのあとは、建築の材料をつくる会社で、貿易の仕事をしていました。毎日、英語でメールを書いていました。だから、日本の会社で日本語を使うのがどんなことか、よくわかります。
今は、小さい子どもを育てながら教えています。料理と読書、着物を着ることが好きです。日本の生活や文化についても、たくさんお話ししましょう。
わたしも英語を勉強しています。新しい言葉を勉強するのは楽しいです。でも、言いたいことが言えないとき、とてもくやしいですよね。その気持ち、よくわかります。

In most lessons, we take one or two grammar points and use them in conversation the same day.
We'll decide the grammar-to-conversation balance together in your first lesson — but over time, we'll always do both. If we only talk, mistakes go uncorrected. If we only study grammar, the words don't come out when you need them.
My slides include English translations, so when Japanese alone isn’t enough, you can check in English. You’re welcome to ask questions in English.
I provide all the materials, so you won’t need to buy a textbook.

・Beginner to advanced — general lessons Built around your goal: travel, work, anime, university study. Tell me what you want to do and we’ll plan it together.
・Business Japanese Emails, meetings, workplace conversation, plus feedback on your Japanese resume and work history document.
・Upper-beginner to advanced — news reading & discussion Using real news articles. We don’t stop at reading — you’ll finish by saying what you think, in Japanese.
・Your first lesson ① Introductions → ② What makes Japanese interesting → ③ A short mini-lesson → ④ Planning what comes next
わたしのレッスンでは、毎回ひとつほど文型を勉強して、その日のうちに会話で使います。
文法と会話、どちらの時間を多くするかは、はじめのレッスンで一緒に決めましょう。でも、どちらか一つだけにはしません。会話だけだと、まちがいがそのままになります。文法だけだと、話すときに言葉が出てきません。
スライドには英語の訳をつけています。日本語だけでわからないときは、英語でかくにんできます。質問は英語でしても大丈夫です。
教材はわたしが用意します。教科書を買う必要はありません。

・入門〜上級：総合レッスン 目的に合わせて内容を決めます。旅行、仕事、アニメ、大学の勉強——やりたいことを教えてください。一緒に計画を立てましょう。
・ビジネス日本語 メール、会議、会社での会話。履歴書と職務経歴書のチェックもできます。
・初中級〜上級：ニュースを読んで話す 本物のニュース記事を使います。読むだけで終わりません。自分の意見を日本語で話すところまでやります。

Lesson Location / レッスン場所
In-person lessons — We'll meet at a café near Shibuya, Harajuku, or Shimo-kitazawa station.
Please note: we each cover our own food and drinks. If you'd prefer somewhere else, just ask.
Online lessons — Held over Zoom or similar, with screen sharing so you can follow the slides.
Availability — Weekdays (Mon–Fri), 9:00–16:00. I'm not available on weekends or evenings.
Scheduling — We'll agree on lesson times by message. If possible, I'd appreciate confirming dates a few days in advance, as I may not be able to accept last-minute requests.
対面レッスンの場所 — 渋谷駅、原宿駅、下北沢駅の近くのカフェでお会いします。
※カフェの飲食代は、それぞれでお支払いをお願いします。
※ほかの場所をご希望のときは、ご相談ください。
オンラインレッスン — Zoomなどを使います。画面を共有して、スライドを見ながら進めます。
レッスンできる曜日・時間 — 平日（月〜金）9:00〜16:00
※土日と夜は、レッスンをしていません。
日程の決め方 — レッスンの日は、メッセージで相談して決めましょう。数日前までに日にちを決めていただけると助かります。急なお申し込みには、お答えできないことがあります。
