Hello, I’m Kaori. Thank you for coming to my profile! I am new here, but I have taught Japanese and English to thousands of students. I have over 30 years of teaching experience in both Japan and the United States.
Using my experience, I provide personalized lessons tailored to each student’s needs.
I live in Shizuoka Prefecture, located in the heart of Japan where Mount Fuji stands. I am a mother of two children. My children are 22 and 20 years old. Currently, I work for an American multinational company while also working as an online Japanese language instructor.
I enjoy following economic news, thinking about strategies, practicing yoga, playing soft volleyball, traveling, spending time with family and friends, and creating and watching YouTube videos.
I have taught many learners of different ages and backgrounds. I customize each lesson to match your goals, level, and learning style. I explain Japanese-specific expressions, including honorifics, in a clear and easy-to-understand way so that learners can feel confident using them in real situations.

Professional Background
After graduating from university in 1991, I began my career as a Japanese language teacher at a Japanese language school in Tokyo. Soon after, I moved to the United States after receiving a U.S. permanent resident visa (Green Card), and lived in California from 1992 to 2001. After working in the corporate field in Los Angeles, I transitioned into education. In Irvine, California, I worked as both an instructor and school manager, providing English education, Japanese language and literature instruction for returnee children, essay writing support, entrance exam preparation, and academic counseling.
After returning to Japan in 2001, I operated my own English school from 2001 to 2025. In addition to running the school, I worked as a part-time English teacher at elementary and junior high schools, as well as a part-time Japanese language instructor at a Japanese language school.
I also gained professional experience working as a secretary to a university chairman and president. In addition, I have actively participated in international exchange programs between my local city and its sister city in the United States, serving as both an organizer and interpreter for many years. Currently, I work for a U.S.-based international company while also leading a local community English conversation club officially recognized by the public community center.
With extensive experience in Japanese and English education, international communication, and cross-cultural understanding, I strive to provide supportive and personalized lessons tailored to each learner’s goals and needs. I look forward to learning with you!

* Each lesson focuses on one theme, allowing us to have a meaningful conversation. (Examples: work, business conversation, recent events, news, travel, health, negotiations, self-introductions, etc.)
* If the conversation slows down, I will ask questions to help keep it flowing naturally.
* I correct expressions naturally at appropriate moments without interrupting the conversation too much.
* Rather than giving detailed grammar explanations, I focus on helping you use natural, practical English that people actually say.
* At the end of each lesson, I provide a short summary of useful alternative expressions and key phrases from our conversation.
I focus on practical English you can actually use in real-life situations. I will also use original materials and topics when needed to expand your vocabulary and expressions. You’ll build natural communication skills in a friendly, comfortable atmosphere.

We can use the official Japan Foundation textbook “Irodori” to build a strong foundation in Japanese step by step. If you have a specific textbook you would like to use, I’m happy to accommodate your request. I can help you achieve those goals through carefully planned lessons using textbooks and original teaching materials.
In this course, in particular, I teach based on my original teaching method, the “Imagia Method,” which was developed from my own learning and teaching experience.
